A taste of Norwegian Aqua: My first time cruising with Norwegian Cruise Line

Earlier this year, I experienced a fabulous three-night sailing on the brand-new Norwegian Aqua - and I'm excited to share the highlights!

I've been fortunate to experience some wonderful cruises over recent years - from river cruising along the Danube with Avalon Waterways to exploring Turkey and Greece with Azamara - but this was my first time sailing with Norwegian Cruise Line, and I was genuinely impressed.

Joined by over 100 fellow Travel Counsellors, I discovered a ship that's massive, modern and packed with surprises. Norwegian Aqua is nothing like the smaller, more intimate ships I've sailed on before - this is cruising on a completely different scale!

Our stop in Bruges

Our sailing from Southampton included a stop in Zeebrugge, the gateway to magical Bruges. With its cobbled streets, peaceful canals and chocolate shops tucked down tiny lanes, it's such a beautiful place to while away a few hours. Absolutely straight from a storybook.

The Norwegian vibe

What struck me immediately was how relaxed and friendly the atmosphere is. No dress codes, no stress - just easy, laid-back cruising. It's perfect for families, groups or anyone who wants a proper holiday at sea without any fuss.

Something for everyone

Kids (and big kids!) will absolutely love the Aqua SlideCoaster - part waterslide, part rollercoaster - plus paddle courts, mini-golf, an epic games room and kids' clubs with nightly parties.

But if you're after luxury, Norwegian delivers that too. The Haven is their private "ship within a ship" - exclusive suites, a private sun deck and restaurant. Hidden away at the top of the ship, Haven guests enjoy access to everything the ship offers, plus the personal service of a concierge and 24-hour butler throughout your stay. Pure bliss for those after a premium experience.

Solo travellers are brilliantly catered for too, with private studio cabins and a dedicated lounge - ideal for making new friends.

Entertainment that surprised me

I'll be honest - cruise shows usually aren't my thing. But Norwegian Aqua completely won me over. From a genuinely moving Fleetwood Mac tribute to a Prince celebration and a mind-blowing show called Elements, it all felt West End-worthy. I was impressed!

Foodies will love this

With 10 specialty restaurants plus top-tier complimentary dining, every craving is covered - steak, sushi, pasta, Thai... Even ordering at the food court is incredibly easy via iPad. And the bars? Each has its own vibe, from chill cocktail spots to buzzing party scenes.

Time to relax

The Mandara Spa is absolutely your go-to for serious relaxation, with massages, facials and quiet spaces to properly unwind.

My clients just returned!

The lovely Devine family of six are just back from the Caribbean on Aqua and were super impressed - the food, the cocktail quality and the shows all got rave reviews!

See it for yourself

I've captured some highlights from my sailing in a quick reel - from the shows to the food to that incredible Aqua SlideCoaster!

Could Norwegian be right for you?

Norwegian Cruise Line has 21 ships sailing worldwide, with prices from just £304pp for a two-night Miami cruise - brilliant for topping off a USA trip. Their “More at Sea” upgrade includes specialty dining, drinks, Wi-Fi and shore credit - making cruising unbeatable value.

Whether you're thinking about your first cruise or your next one, I'd love to help you find the perfect sailing. From intimate river cruises to smaller ocean ships, right through to the incredible scale and choice of Norwegian Aqua - there really is something for everyone.
